The Village of Sussex water pollution control facility produces high-quality effluent, meeting the stringent water quality requirements in the Village’s WPDES discharge permit. Some components of the plant are aged and in need of upgrade or rehabilitation to enhance the operation and maintenance of the facility and ensure years of continued service. The project includes improvements to the oxidation ditch biological treatment system, including replacing the gearbox drives with direct drives and VFDs. Also included in rehabilitating the existing deep bed sand filters, which demonstrate issues with the current underdrain system. The project will also rehabilitate the gravity sludge thickener and the filter backwash tanks. Additional aspects of the project include cleaning or replacing sludge piping and repainting selected areas with performance coatings.
